IPAs are already complicated enough but there are two important styles to know, East Coast IPAs and West Coast IPAs.

The lines may be a bit blurred now but traditionally speaking there are differences and here are simple explanations of the two…

– West Coast IPAs focus on hops are are more bitter.

– East Coast IPAs tend to be more balanced, a little sweeter and not as bitter.

These two styles can be brewed anywhere so you will often see east coast breweries producing west coast style IPAs and vice versa. So next time you’re at the Taphouse drinking an IPA try to think about whether it tastes more like an east coast or west coast and decide for yourself which is the best coast!
